It's time to shred those important documents that you no longer need.

On April 26 and 27, the Better Business Bureau of the Upstate and AARP South Carolina are offering Secure Your ID "Shred Day."  At this free event, anyone can get rid of unwanted (and possibly sensitive) documents that are just lying around and are no longer needed.  They are also offering to purge any computers, hard drives or other electronic devices that you no longer need and don't want to just throw away.

Here are the times and locations for Shred Day:

  • Friday, April 26, 9am-12noon at Heritage Park, Simpsonville
  • Saturday, April 27, 8am-11am at The Better Business Bureau office at 408 North Church Street, Suite C, Greenville
  • Saturday, April 27, 8am-11am at the Anderson Mall in Anderson. Go to the back entrance to the mall.

Consumers are only allowed to bring 3 boxes or 3 plastic bags in total.  Cardboard boxes will be emptied and returned to you.  Businesses are also invited but are also limited to 3 boxes.

Due to safety concerns and to ensure that they are able to serve as many vehicles as possible, they will not be able to accept people coming on foot this year or to allow people to get out of their vehicle to watch their paper shredded.

Handouts will also be available about identity theft and how you can secure your identification.

This complimentary shred event is first come, first serve or until the shred trucks fill up, so they advise you to come early.
