Columbia, South Carolina – South Carolina Senate President Harvey S. Peeler, Jr. was unanimously elected to serve as the 2021–2022 chair-elect of the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) on July 13.

As chair-elect, President Peeler will assist incoming chair, Oklahoma Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Treat, in guiding the SLC during the coming year. President Peeler also is anticipated to serve as chair of the 77th SLC Annual Meeting, to be held in Charleston, South Carolina, in summer 2023.

“I’m proud to welcome legislators and guests from across the Southern region to Charleston and to showcase our state’s unparalleled hospitality,” said Peeler. “The purpose of this meeting is to provide Southern state lawmakers with the opportunity to work together to create more effective public policy so that we may better serve our home states.”

South Carolina most recently hosted the SLC meeting in 2010. The 2023 meeting is expected to draw more than 1,300 attendees from its member states and will feature successful programs and policy initiatives unique to South Carolina. Every year, the SLC brings together experts to discuss opportunities and solutions to challenges facing policymakers across the region.
