A married couple from Minnesota, who struggled to have a baby for three years, finally welcomed two daughters over the past two months.
Kelsi Pierce, a 31-year-old mother, gave birth to her daughter, Ava, on November 23. On October 1, she and her husband Kyle also welcomed another daughter, Everly, in Michigan, Good Morning America reported.
The 31-year-old’s mother, Lisa Rutherford, was the gestational carrier for the married couple.
“It’s just so surreal,” Kelsi said. “I keep pinching myself, like I can’t believe this is my life.”
For the past three years, Kelsi said she dreamed of becoming a mother as she and her husband struggled to get pregnant. Both Kyle and Kelsi went into their saving accounts to try in vitro fertilization to several surgeries.
After two years of trying to have a baby, Kelsi got a horrible phone call from her doctor.
“He told me that nothing was working and my body just wasn’t able to [carry a pregnancy],” Kelsi said. “It was a very emotional conversation, of course, but I understood that we’d tried everything possible.”
Doctors told the married couple that their only options were adoption or finding a gestational carrier.
