Rihanna’s latest social media post has come under fire for accusations of religious insensitivity after she shared a topless photo of herself wearing a pendant that depicts the Hindu god Ganesha.

The photo shows Rihanna wearing a pair of Savage X Fenty lavender satin boxers with a purple bracelet, a pair of large earrings, and a diamond-studded necklace depicting the Hindu god Ganesha.
Almost immediately, Rihanna was met with backlash over her post as one user commented "Can we stop sexualizing people's religion for clout," read another comment. "I just don't understand the purpose of having a necklace with lord Ganesh as part of a lingerie campaign."
Another user added: “Our culture is not your costume.”
The photo comes just weeks after Rihanna spoke out about the months-long protests in India regarding farming regulations. Expressing her support for farmers protesting new agricultural laws in the country, Rihanna wrote “why aren’t we talking about this?!” and shared a link to a story about internet access being cut off around New Delhi following violent clashes between police and farmers.
Lawmaker Ram Kadam wrote a response to Rihanna’s photo and the implications it has with the movement. "It's appalling to see how @Rihanna shamefully mocks our beloved Hindu God #Ganesha," he wrote. "This exposes how #Rihanna has no idea or respect for Indian culture, tradition and our issues here. Hopefully, at least now @RahulGandhi and other Congress leaders will stop taking help from her."
Meanwhile, Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty lingerie brand achieved a new milestone as NME reports it is now worth $1 billion.
Launched in 2018, a new round of funding for the brand raised $115 million that will go towards supporting the company’s growth and expansion into retail.
