PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The summer travel season is right around the corner. After more than a year of a pandemic-induced travel lull, people are ready to get back out and about and see the world.
AAA Senior Vice President of Travel Services Brenda Hunsberger cited a recent survey showing that they expect this to be a busy summer for people, flying, driving, or sailing to a destination away from home.
"69.3% of respondents are ready to travel now. This is by far the highest number since the pandemic began," said Hunsberger.
AAA Vice President of Leisure Travel Chip Morgan said this year, he sees a big trend of "revenge travel," when people try to make up for a lost year of travel. He called that good for the industry.
"Very simply, what we're seeing is spend more, stay longer," said Morgan.
He added that the trend of bubble travel is catching on with a lot of people.
"Looking to travel with family members or friends they trust, they know have had the vaccination, and it's really small group travel," he said.
