Welcome to the NFL, rook?
That is essentially what Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson says a referee told him earlier this season in explaining why he wasn't drawing more penalty calls in his favor.
Wilson revealed the exchange on social media on Monday morning while responding to a video of a controversial non-call from Sunday's Jets-Bills game in Buffalo.
In the clip, Wilson appears to be the victim of a late hit by Buffalo's Jordan Poyer after he takes a step or two out of bounds on a first-down reception early in the third quarter. The play unfolded right in front of field judge John Jenkins and side judge Dale Shaw, but neither official threw a flag.
"I ain't got a call all season," Wilson said. "one ref told me 'this ain't O State no more.' Crazy."
In a followup tweet, Wilson clarified that the referee made the comment during the Patriots-Jets game at MetLife Stadium in Week 8, though he didn't recall the official's field number.
Wilson may not be getting as many calls as he'd like, but it hasn't stopped him from producing. With 78 receiving yards on Sunday against the Bills, Wilson became the Jets' all-time leading rookie receiver with 868 yards, surpassing Keyshawn Johnson's mark of 844 yards, set in 1996.
Through 13 games, Wilson leads the Jets in catches (63), receiving yards (868) and touchdown catches (4). Last week, he was named AFC Offensive Rookie of the Week after reeling in eight receptions for 162 yards against Minnesota.
