Giglio: 'If still defending Trea Turner, you are blind'

Joe Giglio continues to criticize Trea Turner.

"Three hundred million dollars!" Giglio exclaimed on Thursday's 94WIP Midday Show with Hugh Douglas. "You saw a three hundred million dollar shortstop on the field last night. He plays for the Mets, his name is Francisco Lindor. That player is worth that amount of money."

Back in June of 2023, Giglio received backlash for admitting he would "undo" the Turner contract if he had a magic wand.

"I have tried my best over the past two years to be as fair as possible on this Turner thing," Giglio continued. "Everyone got in all of their feelings last year when I said I would wave my magic wand and get rid of the contract and then he got hot and everyone was like, 'You're an idiot! See how good he is?' If you are still defending the Trea Turner thing, you are blind. He can't play shortstop at a high level. He doesn't hit at a high level. His time in Philadelphia is like three separate seven week hot streaks. That's all he is. How is this good their second best player?"

Turner went 0-4 with two strikeouts in Wednesday's eliminating Game 4 loss to the Mets and finished this NLDS series is 3-15 with two walks, five strikeouts and no extra base hits.

Turner, 31, signed an 11-year, $300 million deal with the Phillies in December of 2022. The contract has nine years remaining and Turner has a full no-trade clause.

In two season as a Phillie, Turner is averaging a regular season slash line of .279/.328/.463 with a .791 OPS and 47 total home runs. Defensively, Turner has been brutal, recording 40 total errors over the last two seasons.
