Would the Jets be acquiring more than just superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers in a potential trade with the Green Bay Packers?
Gang Green cornerback Sauce Gardner seems to think so.
Gardner was recently heard mentioning the prospect of "package deals" in the event that the Jets are able to finalize a trade for Rodgers.
"It's package deals all over," Gardner said during a Twitch livestream with teammates Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson. "I can't tell y'all who, but just know."
One name that has surfaced in Rodgers trade speculation in recent days is that of offensive tackle David Bakhtiari, a two-time All-Pro and a longtime pal of Rodgers.
Packers beat reporter Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel noted that it was "curious" that the Packers haven't yet reworked Bakhtiari's contract for salary cap purposes while other contracts "have been done for a while."
Later, Silverstein floated veteran wide receiver Randall Cobb and tight end Robert Tonyan as other possible trade targets.
From the Jets' perspective, Bakhtiari would likely be viewed as the priority acquisition who could fill a position of need, rather than merely bringing in a familiar face to appease Rodgers.
Bakhtiari, who turns 32 in September, has been widely regarded as one of the better offensive tackles in the league throughout his career. Durability has been a concern in recent seasons, though. Last season he was limited to 11 games, in part due to an appendectomy, and in 2021 he played in just one game after suffering a torn ACL late in the 2020 campaign.
