Kid Pan Alley’s Because We Have Music free livestream concert series on Sunday, November 22nd at 7pm EST would have to last all night to hear just the hit songs written by featured artists Pat Alger and Jon Vezner. Hosted by Paul Reisler and Cheryl Toth, you’ll get to hear the songs made famous by the stars sung by the writers who wrote them.
Pat Alger’s songs have been recorded by a wide variety of artists in different genres including The Everly Brothers, Brenda Lee, Peter, Paul & Mary, Nanci Griffith, Dolly Parton, Livingston & James Taylor, Don Williams, Kathy Mattea, Hal Ketchum, Trisha Yearwood, Garth Brooks and many others. He’s had over 20 chart hits including 8 No.1’s.
He’s won many songwriting awards including the Nashville Songwriters Association International Songwriter of the Year and the ASCAP Country Songwriter of the Year as well as the ASCAP Jukebox Songwriter of the Year. In 2010, Pat was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter Jon Vezner’s catalogue of songs reads like a songbook itself, interpreted and recorded by the greats in the business as varied as the songs themselves; artists such as Martina McBride, Janis Ian, John Mellencamp, Nancy Griffith, Faith Hill, Clay Walker, Diamond Rio and Kathy Mattea.
His song Where’ve You Been, the true story of Vezner’s grandparents, won a Grammy and was named Song of the Year by the Nashville Songwriters Association, Country Music Association (CMA) and the Academy of Country Music (ACM). It is one of the only songs ever that has swept all those prestigious awards.
Paul Reisler hasn’t had any huge hits, but he has written more songs than the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and Stephen Foster combined—somewhere north of 3,000 compositions thanks in no small part to his army of 65,000 short Kid Pan Alley collaborators as well a handful of Grammy-winning co-writers. Artists including Sissy Spacek, Raul Malo, Darrell Scott, Cracker, Corey Harris, Jesse Winchester, Lisa Loeb and many others have recorded some of his songs. He’ll be joined by vocalist Cheryl Toth.
When things shut down in March, Kid Pan Alley moved all of their songwriting programs with kids into the virtual world. They are currently working with schools around the country to provide a creative and fun experience for the children.
Thanks to the virtual zoom living room, the concerts have the intimacy of a house concert where the audience can interact with the artists. Register at www.kidpanalley.eventbrite.com. It’s also simulcast on Facebook and YouTube, but it’s way more fun to join the party on zoom.
