A newly released 14-second clip features Lloyd hopping out of a portal alongside “Knives Out” actor Jaeden Martell, 18. Martell plays Morty, Rick’s good-hearted but fretful grandson and science lab sidekick.
In the promo, Rick lets out his signature belch before quoting Han Solo’s famous line from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Morty, we’re home.” Marty responds with his signature catchphrase, “Aw, geez.”
The popular adult animated science fiction sitcom follows the misadventures of Rick, a cynical mad scientist, and a young Morty as the two split their time between domestic life and interdimensional escapades.
The clip, which has been posted on Adult Swim’s various social media accounts, is accompanied by “C-132,” referring to the world dimension where the first two volumes of the “Rick and Morty” comic book take place. The animated series on the other hand mainly follows the Dimension C-137.
Lloyd's role in a live-action version of the show was inevitable. “Rick and Morty” originated from an animated short parody film of “Back to the Future.” In the original 1985 film, Lloyd plays Doc Brown, a paranoid mad scientist.
The new promo comes as “Rick and Morty” air an hour-long finale of Season 5 on Sunday, September 5. It is unclear whether the short teaser hints at a live-action season finale, or if it’s yet another quick one-off clip that the showrunners love so much.
Fans will have to wait until Sunday to find out.
