Taking to the Tumblr page tiredandlonelymuse to share a message, Halsey revealed how they feel about how a minority turned majority of her fans have gotten progressively meaner, with opinions about “how much they hate me or how awful I am.”

“My own fans are hands down meaner to me than any other people on the planet,” Halsey began the note. “Not speaking for all of you, of course. But it used to be just a minority that were awful to me and now it seems like a majority have only stuck around to chime in occasionally with their opinion of how much they hate me or how awful I am. it’s hard to want to engage in a space that is completely devoid of any kindness, sympathy, patience; or to be honest human decency. Especially after years of hiding from the interactions for fear that this EXACT thing would happen. I don’t know man. I almost lost my life. I am not gonna do anything that doesn’t make me happy anymore. I can’t spiritually afford it.”

Halsey who was diagnosed with lupus and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder in 2022, also noted that after taking time away for health, they were actually quite excited to return to music. However, it seems the response Halsey has received thus far to “Lucky” has led them to regret the decision.

“When I got sick,” the singer continued, “all I could think about was getting better so I could come back and be a part of THIS again, but I don’t even know what this is anymore and I want to crawl in a hole and I regret coming back.”

While it’s unclear what exact criticisms lead Halsey to feel these feels, and address fans about it, it might have something to do with this.

For “Lucky,” the first single off Halsey’s upcoming fifth album, which has yet to receive a release date, Halsey interpolated Britney Spears’ 2000 hit of the same name. Initially sharing excitement and a blessing for the upcoming track ahead of it’s release, it seemed Britney changed her tune once the song’s official music video arrived.

Drawing some inspiration from Brit Brit’s visuals and its concept that fame isn’t always what it seems, Halsey weaved in their own life experiences. However, based off a post on X, that’s not how Britney saw it, or so it appeared.

Shortly after the video’s release, a post made on Britney’s X claimed Halsey’s portrayal offended her, and made her look like a “superficial pop star.” That being said, the post was quickly deleted, and followed up by another post denying she ever wrote those words. “Fake news !!! That was not me on my phone !!! I love Halsey and that’s why I deleted it !!!”

Halsey responded by retweeting Spears, writing, “and I love Britney!!!! I always have and always will 💕 you were the first person who ever made me realize what it means to feel inspired. And you continue to inspire me everyday.”

So if Britney’s cool, why is everybody being so mean?
