For week two of his new Audacy podcast series On the Phone with John Mingione, NEW 102.7’s John Mingione called up Kelly Ripa, who he interned for in 2010. During their chat Kelly told John about a dark time in her marriage, shared a story about saving a life with Richard Gere, and more.

After discussing the more lighthearted tiffs they have and hash out on Live TV as a IRL couple TV show hosting duo, Kelly delved in to what she discusses within a whole chapter in her book Live Wire, about “what happens to your marriage when you become empty nesters,” which Kelly and Mark now are.
While it’s different for every couple, Kelly revealed that after her children moved out, her and Mark “initially went into this very dark place where we started fighting over nothing.”
She continued, “And then Mark asked me if I wanted to go to the beach, and we went to the beach at sunset and we took like cheese and a baguette and it was the first time, like we started saying to each other is it always pretty at the beach? Are we always able to see the sunset like this? It's so beautiful. And we realized we had spent years going to the beach and not really having any fun because we were worried about the kids.”
The two also went on to unpack a... unique... way in which their intimidating EP Michael Gelman begins his meetings with a gong. To catch it all, listen to Johnny’s full conversation with Kelly Ripa above.
