George Clinton, Doobie Brothers, Beach Boys’ Mike Love lead 2025 class for Songwriters Hall of Fame

The Songwriters Hall of Fame will welcome six new songwriters/songwriting teams in 2025. They include George ClintonAshley GorleyRodney “Darkchild” JerkinsMike Love, Tony Macaulay and three members of The Doobie Brothers (Tom JohnstonMichael McDonald and Patrick Simmons).

All inductees will be honored at the the organization’s 2025 Induction and Awards Gala scheduled for June 12 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

During the ceremony, recipients for the career-capping Johnny Mercer Award and current songwriting recognition Hal David Starlight Award will be revealed.

This years’ honorees beat out twenty-six original nominees who were all vying for a spot in the class of 2025. Those who fell shy of the honor include four women — Franne GoldeSheryl CrowJanet Jackson and Alanis Morissette – none of which made it making it the first woman-less class since 2017.
