Inspired by her next album, This Is Me… Now, the film is described by its distributor Amazon MGM Studios as “nothing you’ve ever seen from Jennifer Lopez.”
“Alongside director Dave Myers, Jennifer has created a narrative-driven cinematic odyssey, steeped in mythological storytelling and personal healing. Dropping in tandem with her first studio album in a decade, this genre-bending Amazon original showcases her journey to love through her own eyes. With fantastical costumes, breathtaking choreography, and star-studded cameos, this panorama is an introspective retrospective of Jennifer’s resilient heart.”
In the newly released, just over two minute trailer for the film, you’ll find a little of everything mentioned above and a even a bit more. There’s singing, dancing, steampunk special effects, lots of costumes, the suggestion that she's a "sex addict," and even a motorcycle crash and a trip to outer space. All while J.Lo monologues about being a hopeless romantic and her evolution as a person in the background.
Though we don’t actually see Ben Affleck's face, well except for a small glimpse at the side of it, the impressive list of actor appearances shown in the trailer insures he’ll be in the film.
In addition to Affleck, Fat Joe, Trevor Noah, Kim Petras, Post Malone, Keke Palmer, Sofía Vergara, Jenifer Lewis, Derek Hough, Jay Shetty, astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, and Sadhguru, a few of which are seen in the trailer, are all set to appear.
“I have not been this nervous, excited, scared and thrilled to share something with you in years,” Lopez wrote today in her newsletter, On the JLo. “The story of the journey from This Is Me… Then to This Is Me… Now is the most personal thing I’ve ever done.” Wait, so does that mean the movie tells the story of the journey between those two albums? Actually, we don’t want to know, we’d rather be surprised… or confused.
Both the album This Is Me… Now and This Is Me... Now: A Love Story are set to release on February 16, 2024. Until then, check out the fantastical trailer above.
