(610 Sports) - The Kansas City Chiefs defense came on in a big way the second half of last season and there are a number of reasons why, most notably were the health of defensive end Frank Clark and the cohesiveness of a defensive back unit that featured five players who weren't in Kansas City a year prior.
Third year cornerback Charvarious Ward joined 'The Drive' on Monday to shared his thoughts on last year's turnaround and where he thinks this defense sits moving forward. One thing in particular that Ward pointed to and thinks will play in the defense's favor, is who they are lining up against everyday. Asked about the competition level in practice, Ward didn't hesitate. "We've got five or six receivers that can run like a 4.4 or 4.3 any day of the week, so that speed is very difficult for any team in the NFL, they definitely are preparing our whole defensive back unit for other teams. I think when we play other teams it'll seem like they're running in slow motion because our guys are moving like real real fast, those guys are great competition for us."
