The Chiefs are heading into their 5th straight AFC Championship, but all of this week's conversation figures to be about Patrick Mahomes' ankle. After hurting it in the Divisional win over the Jaguars, it was reported that Mahomes suffered a high ankle sprain. On Monday, Chiefs coach Andy Reid confirmed that's what the injury actually is, and talked about the plan the team is putting in place to hopefully get Mahomes on the field by this weekend.
"As far as injuries go, Patrick is the main one," he said. "As you guys know, he hurt his ankle. It's been reported that it's a high ankle sprain, and that's pretty accurate ... he's worked hard in the treatment and is doing okay.
"He told you guys, he mentioned it to you, that' he's going to play. So that's his mindset. And then we'll just take it day-by-day and see how he does."
