Patrick Mahomes praises Trevor Lawrence's trip to Waffle House: 'That place always hits'

Trevor Lawrence’s celebration for his first playoff win was well-received by his next opponent.

Following their impressive comeback win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday in the wild card round, Lawrence’s wife, Marissa, called a Waffle House and made a reservation – something Mahomes would later describe as a “baller move.”

Turns out, the Jags quarterback was checking a few boxes, as the trip fulfilled a promise he made to two of his teammates, E.J. Perry and Brandon Scherff, neither of whom had been to the late night breakfast spot before.

Regardless of what prompted the visit, Mahomes saluted the decision in his weekly interview on “The Drive.”

“Man, I couldn’t tell you (what I did for my first playoff win),” Mahomes said. "I’m sure there were a couple Coors Lites that went in there, but other than that I didn’t go to Waffle House or anything like that. But that’s a good call by him, because that place always hits.

“I've had it a couple times. They’re down there in Texas, I’ll get down there every once in a while, but it’s not something that I’d say I’m a Waffle House guy. But with my dad traveling around and playing a lot of minor league baseball at the end of his career, we made our appearance at Waffle House a couple of times.”

Lawrence will attempt to earn playoff victory No. 2 on Saturday when the Jags face in the Chiefs in the divisional round at Arrowhead Stadium. There are a few Waffle Houses in the greater Kansas City area, so Lawrence and the Jags might have to make another trip there if they pull off the upset.
