Patrick Mahomes on meeting Taylor Swift at Chiefs game: 'She was really cool'

There are not many celebrities whose star can eclipse that of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, but pop icon Taylor Swift might be one of the few.

Swift was in attendance at Arrowhead Stadium for the Chiefs' drubbing of the Chicago Bears on Sunday, amid swirling rumors of a romance with Kansas City star tight end Travis Kelce. Swift was spotted sitting alongside Kelce's mother, Donna.

For Mahomes, Swift's appearance was the cherry on top of a near perfect day at the office during which the Chiefs improved to 2-1.

"It was a lot of fun at Arrowhead," Mahomes told host Carrington Harrison during his weekly appearance on 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City on Monday. "Obviously the game went well, and a lot of people had fun with the celebrity who was in the stands, so it was a lot of fun, and I'm glad we got to put on a good show."

Mahomes got to meet his favorite pass-catcher's squeeze after the game, and the two-time NFL MVP seemed to be a bit star-struck by the encounter. But actually it wasn't the first time they crossed paths.

"I got to meet her [after the game] -- it was actually funny, I met her in passing like five or six years ago, and I thought she'd never remember it. But she remembered meeting me that moment, so that was pretty cool for her to remember that, but she was really cool and real down to earth. So I'm happy for her and Travis."

So how did they first meet?

"I was on the cover of 'Madden' the first time. I went to Nashville for the NFL Draft, and she was doing an interview before I was, in one of the broadcast booths. So I just like walked by and said 'hey,' and that was basically it, but she remembered it, and that was pretty cool. I know she meets a lot of people."

Meanwhile, Mahomes was one of the tens of thousands in attendance at Arrowhead Stadium when Swift performed there in July as part of the ongoing Eras Tour.

"The show was awesome," Mahomes said. "She went for like two and a half hours. I've never seen a concert like that. The crowd was into it the entire time. Obviously she has a ton of hits. ... It was a cool experience, and Arrowhead was very, very loud."

So is Mahomes a crypto-Swiftie?

"I definitely have a ton of respect for her. I don't know what qualifies as being a Swiftie, but I know she's really good at making music, and I listen to it, and I know my daughter likes it when we turn it on in the car."

Elsewhere, Mahomes opens up about recently reconnecting with Baseball Hall of Famer Derek Jeter, and the one legendary athlete he would most like to meet.
