With playoffs looming, Mahomes keeping his bubble small

(610 Sports) -- The NFL decided against having a playoff bubble, instead opting to stay the course they had taken during the regular-season, using aggressive testing and contact tracing, leaving teams and players responsible for their own actions. For Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, that's fine, he has faith in his teammates, and faith in the team to follow every protocol in an attempt to ensure everyone is healthy heading into the postseason.

As witnessed with the New Orleans Saints in Week 17, having even one person on a team getting exposed to the coronavirus, can bring down a whole position group, something no team can afford heading into the playoffs, not even the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs, who finished the regular season at 14-2 and locked up the #1 overall seed in the AFC, now have a week to relax, heal up, and wait for the first round of the playoffs to shake out in order to see who they will face in the divisional round at Arrowhead Stadium. We asked the Chiefs signal-caller how he plans to quarantine and what precautions he will be taking, to ensure he's ready to go for the Chiefs AFC Divisional Round game.

"I actually already started it last weekend, I'm basically in my own bubble at my house. I'm not even having my parents around Brittany or anyone that's at my house during the games, I'm having them sit in other places, and doing everything like that," said Mahomes.

"You have to take precautions, because you know if you test positive, you're gonna be out for two important games, pretty much. You make sure you do whatever you can to be available for your team at the end of the day."

If there's one player the Chiefs don't want to be without, it's their quarterback. Mahomes, who has a penchant for late game heroics, brought his team back from being down in all three playoff games last year, including Super Bowl LIV, where the Chiefs trailed 20-10 after three quarters, before erupting for 21 unanswered points, on the way to a 31-20 victory over the San Francisco 49'ers.
