The Royals kicked off their trade deadline plan this week, trading Carlos Santana to the Seattle Mariners on Monday morning. The move -- paired with the promotion of Vinnie Pasquantino -- signals that JJ Picollo and company probably have a few more transactions in mind before the August 2 deadline. With plenty of veteran candidates on the roster, what move could come next? 610's Royals Insider Josh Vernier broke it down while talking with Fescoe In The Morning on Tuesday.

"When talking about Carlos Santana, they were aggressive. They were on the attack, per se," Vernier said. "They were the ones picking up the phones, making these calls, and diving into the Mariners and other ball club's minor leagues teams ... This is, in my opinion, just the beginning. The Royals did exactly what I wanted. They're not sitting around waiting for the market to heat up. They started the market ... With savvy moves -- you mentioned Benintendi, Merrifield, and Dozier -- there's just no reason why you can't surround this core of Bobby, MJ, Vinnie, and Salvy, there's just no reason why you can't surround them with talent."
