By now, the approach that the Royals' front office is taking into the 2022 MLB trade deadline is no secret. The team's decision to trade Carlos Santana to the Mariners for two minor-league pitchers kicked off what's shaping up to be one of the active deadlines for Kansas City in the last several years. Speaking to 610's Cody and Gold on Tuesday, GM JJ Picollo gave a little bit of insight into how he's viewing this year's deadline.
"I tend to be a little bit more, along with other people in our office, a little bit more aggressive," he said. "You like to keep in communication with other teams. It's just good to know the landscape of what teams are thinking, where they want to go, and for them to know what we're thinking. So we try to keep an open dialogue with several teams. Clearly some teams are buyers and some teams are sellers, and that communication is really important, and you know we've laid that ground work the last couple weeks. We'll continue to have those conversations with the clubs we feel we best suit up with."
