(610 Sports) – According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Royals are sending infielder Adalberto Mondesi to the Boston Red Sox for left-handed reliever Josh Taylor.

The Red Sox will also receive a player to be named later in the deal.

Mondesi, the son of former big leaguer Raul Mondesi, has shown flashes of being the star the Royals hoped they drafted but has struggled to stay on the field during the first seven years of his career.

He has appeared in more than 100 games just once and made only 15 appearances in 2022. Over the last three seasons, Mondesi is slashing .233/.275/.392.

Josh Taylor, 29, battled a back issue for all of 2022, failing to appear in a major league game. The season before, however, he had evolved into one of Alex Cora's more trusted relievers, pitching in 61 games., turning in a 3.40 ERA in 47.2 innings.
