Royals Insider on what comes next after Dayton Moore's departure

There are plenty of questions to be answered now that the Royals have started the post-Dayton Moore era. Though the team was already in the middle of a rebuild of sorts, the change in leadership leaves more up in the air than previously expected. On Wednesday's Fescoe In The Morning, 610's Royals Insider Josh Vernier joined the show to explain his thoughts on the move, and more importantly, what comes next for the team.

"If you're JJ Picollo, when it becomes your show, you want your guy," he said. "Not that he's not a fan of Mike Matheny, but you've seen what kind of an owner John Sherman is going to be. He comes in, buys the team – pandemic hits and he still pays everyone, he spends money in free agency, he breaks off Salvador Perez a big contract ... This is an aggressive owner. This isn't Mr. Glass, 'Here Dayton it's your organization, call me if you need anything.' No, John Sherman is present. So if you're JJ Picollo, you understand that, 'Hey, I have two, three years to make this thing work. I can't waste time, I can't drag my feet or stick with someone I don't 100% believe in.' So if Mike Matheny isn't that guy in JJ Picollo's mind, yeah, he has to make a move. But to me, the bottom line is that you've got to win."
