The Royals continued to dominate the 2022 trade market on Wednesday night, when it was reported that they sent outfielder Andrew Benintendi to the New York Yankees for three pitching prospects. There are surely more trades to come before the August 2nd deadline, and while speaking on 610's Fescoe In The Morning, Royals Insider Josh Vernier explained why he thinks that's good news for the team this year.

"No question it's the first domino," he said. "It's also a nice little sneak peak into just how much of a seller's market this is. In my opinion, the return the Royals got for Andrew Benintendi is better than the return they got for pick 35 from the Atlanta Braves. Now, if the Royals were to hang on to Benintendi, give him that qualifying offer, he declines and signs elsewhere, you're basically getting pick number 35, 36, 37 through a compensatory pick. So, two months of Andrew Benintendi is already bringing back more than a first-round draft pick would. Certainly could have gotten more if you threw in a Staumont, Barlow, or Michael A. Taylor, but suddenly that Michael A. Taylor trade looks like it could bring back more than some believed on his own. Seller's market, no question."
