Healthy Kopech Absent Due To Personal Matter

(670 The Score) White Sox right-hander Michael Kopech was absent from the start of summer camp at Guaranteed Rate Field on Friday due to a personal matter, general manager Rick Hahn said.

Kopech has the team's permission to be away, and he's also healthy, Hahn added. It's unclear when the 24-year-old Kopech may join the team.

Kopech hasn't pitched in the big leagues since undergoing Tommy John surgery in September 2018. While his role isn't yet clear, he's expected to be a key contributor in 2020, whether it's as a rotation member, out of the bullpen or in an unconventional manner such as being a piggyback starter.

On Thursday, Chicago issued a 14-day quarantine order for travelers coming from 15 states deemed coronavirus hot spots. The order takes effect Monday and applies to travelers from Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nevada, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Utah.

It's unclear where Kopech will be traveling from.
