(97.1 The Ticket) One brother might disagree, but facts are facts: Amon-Ra St. Brown and the Lions went 1-1 against Equanimeous St. Brown and the Packers last season.
“There’s definitely some trash talk going on,” Amon-Ra said Tuesday on 97.1 The Ticket about his rivalry with his older brother and fellow wide receiver. “We finished last year 1-1. They beat us, we beat them. Their excuse is, ‘Yeah, but we were going to the playoffs so Aaron Rodgers didn’t play the whole game.’ But I don’t care what it is. That’s the record.”
The personal bragging rights belonged to Amon-Ra. He caught 11 passes in two games against the Packers, including eight for 109 yards and a touchdown in Detroit’s 37-30 win in the season finale — part of a performance that saw him make franchise history. Equanimeous caught three passes for 22 yards in two games against the Lions.
This year, the St. Brown’s are upping the ante -- quite literally. They’re slated to play each other two more times after Equanimeous signed with the Bears, so Amon-Ra said they “made a little friendly bet -- $1,000 that we’ll have a better season than them.”
It figures to be close. The Bears beat the Lions in both matchups in 2021, but their over/under win totals this season are the same: 6.5. However it shakes out, Amon-Ra’s focus lies more on his brother's former team.
“We all know, we’re trying to beat the Packers at the end of the day,” he said. “That’s the team that’s been running this division the last few years. They’ve had a few changes over there, we’ve had a few changes here. When those division games come, I feel like they count double. You play them twice a year, those games just matter so much more. And when you’re playing against the Packers, it’s probably one of the biggest games of the year for us.”
