Andy Dalton still limited in Bears' practice, while Justin Fields is a full go

Fields (thumb) will start against the Lions on Sunday if Dalton (knee) isn't healthy.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (670 The Score) -- It appears the Bears' quarterback situation against the Lions on Sunday will simply come down to whether veteran starter Andy Dalton is healthy enough to play.

Dalton (left knee) was a limited participant in the Bears' practice Thursday, which marked the second straight day he worked in that manner. The team remains committed to Dalton as its starter if he's healthy, coach Matt Nagy has said, though that may not be clear until prior to kickoff Sunday at Soldier Field.

Dalton is dealing with a bone bruise in his left knee, an injury he suffered during the Bears' win against the Bengals on Sept. 19. It's considered a multi-week injury.

The rookie Fields started in place of Dalton last Sunday in Cleveland, suffering a right thumb injury in the loss. Though the Bears have made a point to be cautious with Fields' health, he has practiced in full this week.

Star pass rusher Khalil Mack (foot) and safety Tashaun Gipson (hamstring) didn't practice for a second straight day Thursday. Their statuses for Sunday are in question. Linebacker Joel Iyiegbuniwe (hamstring), tight end Jesse James (personal) and defensive back Xavier Crawford (back) also didn't practice Thursday.

Receiver Darnell Mooney (groin) remained a limited participant in practice, though his status for Sunday isn't in doubt. Nose tackle Eddie Goldman (knee) practiced in full for the first time this regular season. He has missed Chicago's first three games.

The Lions listed linebacker Trey Flowers (shoulder/knee) as not practicing. Running back D'Andre Swift (groin), pass rusher Michael Brockers (shoulder) and pass rusher Romeo Okwara (shoulder) were limited.

Kickoff between the Bears (1-2) and Lions (0-3) comes Sunday at noon CT from Soldier Field.
