(670 The Score) Veteran safety Jonathan Owens has agreed to join the Bears on a two-year deal, a source said Tuesday afternoon.
Owens, 28, is a five-year NFL veteran. He had 84 tackles in 17 games for the Packers last season. He played for the Texans for the prior four years. Owens has played in 48 career games, including 30 starts.
Owens gives the Bears more depth at safety, where they signed two-time All-Pro Kevin Byard on Sunday to start alongside Jaquan Brisker.
The Bears’ deal with Owens can become official Wednesday at 3 p.m. CT, when the NFL’s new league year starts.
