Matt Miller: Bears' drawn-out searches leaving GM candidate wondering 'how serious they're taking you'

(670 The Score) The Bears are amid expansive searches for their next general manager and head coach, announcing confirmed interviews with 17 candidates before conducting more Friday.

The Bears have interviewed 10 candidates for general manager and seven for head coach, a strategy made possible through virtual interviews and one that they believe is the best path. But it’s a process that’s left concern for at least one candidate.

One candidate for the Bears’ general manager position – who hadn't yet interviewed with Chicago’s search team as of Thursday – was left wondering whether he’s a serious candidate because of the sheer number of interviews being conducted, ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller told the Bernstein & Rahimi Show on Friday.

“They told me, ‘You know, it’s tough, because there are, like, 15 people interviewing for this job,’” Miller said. “’And it’s hard to know how serious they’re taking you when they’re interviewing that many people and it’s also hard because you don’t know how long this process is going to take.’”

The Bears have interviewed 10 candidates for general manager: former Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie, 49ers director of personnel Ran Carthon, Patriots consultant Eliot Wolf, Colts assistant general manager Ed Dodds, Bills assistant general manager Joe Schoen, Titans director of player personnel Monti Ossenfort, Browns vice president of player personnel Glenn Cook, Browns vice president of football operations Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, Bears assistant director of player personnel Champ Kelly and Saints assistant general manager Jeff Ireland.

Schoen was hired by the Giants on Friday. Dodds withdrew his name from consideration from the Bears on Wednesday, according to a report from NFL Media. That came two days after he met with Chicago's search team.

The Bears were scheduled to meet with Chiefs executive director of player personnel Ryan Poles on Friday for their general manager position.
