Bears place RB Tarik Cohen, WR Dazz Newsome on PUP list ahead of training camp

(670 The Score) The Bears have placed running back Tarik Cohen and receiver Dazz Newsome on the physically-unable-to-perform list ahead of the start of training camp this coming week, the team announced Sunday.

Placement on the PUP list ahead of training camp is mainly procedural.
Players can come off the PUP list and return to practice any time in training camp once they're medically cleared.

Cohen is in the final stages of his recovery after tearing the ACL in his right knee late last September. He has progressed well in his recovery, and the Bears are hopeful he can return to action soon.

Cohen, 25, signed a three-year contract extension with the Bears last September about a week before he suffered his serious knee injury. He rushed for 74 yards and had 41 receiving yards in three games in 2020. Cohen is a key figure out of the backfield in the Bears' passing game, averaging more than four receptions per game in his four-year NFL career, and has also been the Bears' primary punt returner.

Newsome broke his collarbone in early June. Chicago selected him in the sixth round this past spring.
