(670 The Score) The Bears have signed veteran defensive lineman Mike Pennel, tight end Jake Butt and offensive lineman Tyrone Wheatley Jr., the team announced Friday.
All three players held tryouts this week for the Bears' minicamp at Halas Hall. The team waived defensive lineman Thomas Schaffer and tackle Gunnar Vogel.
Pennel, 30, has played in 91 career games over seven NFL seasons. He most recently played for the Chiefs for the last two years and was part of their Super Bowl championship team two years ago.
The addition of Pennel offers the Bears depth on the defensive line, which comes with added importance after nose tackle Eddie Goldman was an unexcused absence from veteran minicamp this week.
The 6-foot-4, 330-pound Pennel has the versatility to play nose tackle.
A fifth-round pick to the Broncos in 2017, Butt has played in just eight games and recorded two catches over four seasons while dealing with injuries.
Wheatley is a former college tight end who is converting to tackle. His father was a 10-year NFL veteran running back who played with the Giants and Raiders.
