Bears trade running back Khalil Herbert to Bengals for a 7th-round pick

(670 The Score) The Bears have traded running back Khalil Herbert to the Bengals for a 2025 seventh-round pick, they announced Tuesday morning.

Herbert, 26, is playing in the final season of his rookie contract. He has carried just eight times for 16 yards this season and was a healthy scratch from the Bears' game day roster in each of the last two games as he has failed to establish a role.

A sixth-round pick of the Bears in 2021, Herbert has averaged 4.8 yards per carry over 48 career games. He primarily worked as a reserve running back in his Bears career, in which he started 12 contests.

Herbert's role with the Bears was greatly reduced after the team signed veteran running back D'Andre Swift to a three-year, $24-million deal in March. Second-year back Roschon Johnson has worked in a complementary role alongside Swift.

The Bengals have acquired Herbert after running back Zack Moss suffered a neck injury in Cincinnati's win Sunday.

The NFL's trade deadline is at 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday.
