LAKE FOREST, Ill. (670 The Score) -- Bears wide receiver Chase Claypool has made his presence known in training camp. He may have suffered a setback.

Claypool appeared to injure his hamstring during one-on-one drills early in practice Wednesday, this as he attempted to make a cut on his receiving route. Claypool did not leave the field but was clearly limping and held out of work for the rest of the day.

Coach Matt Eberflus declined to offer specifics on Claypool’s injury status.

“We’ll see where it goes,” Eberflus said.

The 24-year-old Claypool had made a strong impression during training camp, this ahead of his first full season with the Bears. Acquired in a trade last November, Claypool had just 14 receptions for 140 yards since landing in Chicago.

Claypool had 62 receptions for 873 yards and nine touchdowns as a rookie with the Steelers in 2020. He has scored just three touchdowns since.

The Bears dealt a second-round pick to the Steelers for Claypool, a selection that turned into the No. 32 overall slot in this year’s NFL Draft.

Claypool had shown the Bears his increased comfort during the course of training camp.

“Just him learning the offense, knowing where he’s going, playing fast, executing and trusting with Justin Fields,” Eberflus said. “That’s real positive. He’s a really good blocker in the run game. He’s unselfish that way, ready to dig things out in the run game, blocking on the back side. Just all over improvement, and I think it’s getting better.”

The Bears practiced on Wednesday without linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, pass rusher DeMarcus Walker, right guard Nate Davis and reserve guard Lucas Patrick. Receiver Equanimeous St. Brown and reserve guard Alex Leatherwood each left practice with apparent injuries.

Eberflus has stood by his personal policy and declined to comment on specific injuries during training camp, when official reporting of injuries is not required by the NFL.

Eberflus said the Bears are not concerned with the long-term statuses of Edmunds and Walker, whom he said are each well in line to play the team’s season opener Sept. 12 against the Packers.

The Bears will play their preseason opener Saturday when they host the Titans at Soldier Field.
