Bears will rest Caleb Williams, majority of their starters in preseason finale Thursday

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (670 The Score) – The preseason is over for Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams and the majority of the team's starters.

The Bears will rest Williams and most of their starters in their preseason finale at the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, head coach Matt Eberflus said Tuesday. Only select starters and reserves will play.

Williams was 4-of-7 for 95 yards in two possessions against the Bills in his first preseason action on Aug. 10. He was 6-of-13 for 75 yards in exhibition action against the Bengals this past Saturday. The Bears held out Williams and their starters in the Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 1.

Eberflus believes Williams accomplished what he needed in the preseason while also making a strong impression at Halas Hall.

"He's a great learner, really smart, he works really hard, but he's also able to work with others," Eberflus said. "He’s compatible personality-wise, instinct-wise to work with people.

"This guy has had tremendous success ― Heisman, first pick in the draft, very successful as a college player ― and his willingness to learn is second to none."

The Bears and Chiefs kick off at 7:20 p.m. on Thursday.
