CHICAGO (670 The Score) — Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams was selected with the No. 1 overall pick back in the 2024 NFL Draft with the hope of leading a struggling franchise to prominence.
Williams' rookie season has instead been marked by dysfunction around him. On Thursday evening, Chicago suffered its 10th consecutive loss with a 6-3 defeat to the Seattle Seahawks, and Soldier Field was filled with boos and chants for ownership to “sell the team.” It was an ugly home finale amid a disappointing season.
Williams, 23, explained that he understands the feelings of Bears fans.
“Their frustrations go way longer back than I’ve been here,” Williams said. “My job is to go out there and win games. We don’t focus on the outside noise. The fans are going to cheer and maybe boo sometimes. You can’t react to that. It's not something we react to. We have a job to do.”
Williams has enjoyed a solid rookie season, but his performance Thursday was among the worst of his young NFL career. He was 16-of-28 for 122 yards and an interception as the Bears managed just 179 yards of offense.
Williams has thrown for 3,393 yards, 19 touchdowns and six interceptions in 16 games this season. The Bears were once 4-2 on the season, but they now stand at 4-12.
"Frustrating, annoyed, but learning, I would say,” Williams said of his first NFL season. “I think this is going to be good for me. I'm excited about this last game and excited about the future.”
