(670 The Score) New Bears coach Matt Eberflus has tabbed his top lieutenant on defense, as Chicago has hired Indianapolis Colts safeties coach Alan Williams as its new defensive coordinator, the organization announced Wednesday.

Williams, 52, has been with the Colts since 2014. He worked under Eberflus, who was previously the Colts' defensive coordinator, for the last four seasons. Williams will be the Bears' primary play-caller on defense, as Eberflus has already stated that his focus needs to be on the team as a whole.

"Alan has really good command of the whole picture," Colts coach Frank Reich said Tuesday. "Alan is fast on his feet as a thinker. Listening, being on the headset and hearing Flus call the defenses, interact with the defensive staff, hearing Alan’s input, hearing the dialogue between he and Flus, how dynamic it was, how much Flus trusted him over those four years seeing that relationship develop.

"Alan has great energy on the field. Watching Alan run drills on the field, he’s got good energy, good body language, got a good positive vibe to him, can connect. So Alan’s an excellent football coach."

The Bears on Wednesday also hired Dave Borgonzi as their linebackers coach and Chris Morgan as their offensive line coach.

Borgonzi spent the last four seasons as the Colts' linebackers coach under Eberflus. Morgan served as the Steelers' assistant offensive line coach last season. Prior to that stint, he worked six years with the Falcons as their offensive line coach and running game coordinator.

The Bears previously hired offensive coordinator Chris Getsy on Saturday, which was the first addition to Eberflus' staff to be made official.
