(670 The Score) New Bears general manager Ryan Poles’ roster makeover continued Friday.

A day after the Bears agreed to trade star pass rusher Khalil Mack to the Chargers, Chicago made the decision to release nose tackle Eddie Goldman, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported. Earlier Friday, news broke that the Bears will cut running back Tarik Cohen as well with an injury designation.

The Bears tried to trade the 28-year-old Goldman but didn’t find any suitors, Rapoport reported. If the Bears designate Goldman as a post-June 1 cut, his exit will give them nearly $9 million more in salary cap space. If he doesn't receive such a designation, the Bears will save a little more than $6 million on their books this offseason.

Goldman had been a centerpiece of the Bears’ defense after being selected in the second round in 2015, but he was less available and effective in recent years. Goldman opted out of playing in the 2020 season and then played in 14 games in 2021, starting 10, while registering 22 tackles and 0.5 sacks.

Goldman had 175 tackles and 13 sacks in 81 games across six seasons in Chicago.
