(670 The Score) The Bears entered the 2020 offseason preparing to make a potentially significant move at the quarterback position. The path they initially sought wasn’t clear then but has since come to the spotlight.
Future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady, who's now a television analyst with FOX, revealed on a recent broadcast that the Bears were one of the most aggressive teams in pursuing him as a free agent back in 2020. Brady eventually signed with the Buccaneers.
On Thursday, Bears chairman George McCaskey confirmed his team’s interest.
“It seems like ancient history at this point, but I do remember we were interested in pursuing him,” McCaskey told reporters in London as the Bears prepared for their game against the Jaguars on Sunday. “It didn’t work out for us. Worked out great for him with Tampa.
“Any time you’re in a situation like that, you’re not putting all of your eggs in one basket. So you’re looking at alternatives. It’s the same in free agency. It’s the same in the draft. If the person you’re targeting isn’t available, you want to make sure you’ve done your due diligence on all other options, so that was one option we were looking at.”
Brady won his seventh Super Bowl championship in the 2020 season, his first of three years with Tampa. After missing out on Brady, the Bears acquired veteran quarterback Nick Foles that offseason, keeping him on their roster for two seasons in Chicago.
