(670 The Score) Bears safety Jaquan Brisker loves how the team’s secondary that he helps spearhead has developed.
The Bears have a young secondary, which includes fourth-year cornerback Jaylon Johnson, second-year cornerback Kyler Gordon, rookie cornerback Tyrique Stevenson and second-year pro Brisker as core members. Beyond them, rookie cornerback Terell Smith has also been a key contributor in recent weeks.
“The secondary has been crazy,” Brisker said on the Bernstein & Holmes Show on Tuesday. “We’ve just been getting better and better each and every single day, every single week. Our chemistry is growing. You can just tell that guys are out there healthy, guys are out there flying around, having fun with a lot of great energy, passion. It showing. I can’t wait to get back with those guys.”
“It’s amazing," Brisker said. "You know where they’re going to be. You know what communication they’re going to make. And playing with confidence, you don’t have to second-guess yourself. You know they’re going to be there where they’re supposed to be. You trust them. And then those guys, they make plays.
“We all just know we’re going to make plays and fly around. We all are all happy for each other, and we like to make plays.”
The Bears are 25th in the NFL in passing defense for the season, allowing 237.5 yards per game through the air. Chicago’s defense has improved drastically since the Bears acquired star edge rusher Montez Sweat in late October in a trade with the Commanders.
Since then, the secondary and the defense has found their form. The Bears have held opponents to 17.2 points in their past six games, and they limited the Cardinals to just 306 yards of offense in a 27-16 win Sunday.
