(670 The Score) In the aftermath of the Bears' heartbreaking 31-26 loss to the Lions on Sunday at Ford Field, safety Jaquan Brisker delivered a message to quarterback Justin Fields.
Brisker told Fields that the Bears’ loss fell on the shoulders of the defense, as he shared Tuesday on the Bernstein & Holmes Show.
“I thought Justin gave us the chance to win,” Brisker said. “I thought he played well. I texted him and told him that was on the defense, and it truly was. They gave us that late field goal at the end to put us up two (scores). The defense has to close that out. There’s nothing else you can say. There’s no excuse. There’s nothing. He played so well. He’s a great leader. His energy was contagious.
“He was just different. In the pass game, in the pocket, getting out of the pocket and delivering great balls, (leading) the receiver so he wouldn’t get hit too hard (with) his ball placements. It was just different with him out there. I was just so disappointed that we couldn’t get the win for him.”
Fields was 16-of-23 for 169 yards and a touchdown while posting a 105.2 passer rating. He also had 18 carries for 104 yards.
The Bears led 26-14 with 4:15 remaining before the Lions had a pair of late touchdown drives. Fields and the Bears offense got the football back with 29 seconds remaining, but he was stripped of the football on first down and the play resulted in a safety.
The Bears fell to 3-8 with the loss to the Lions. They take on the Vikings (6-5) next Monday night in Minneapolis.
