(670 The Score) Cornerback Jaylon Johnson’s representation is in contract extension discussions with the Bears, though to hear Johnson address the situation, it doesn’t sound like they’re on the verge of a deal just yet.

“Yeah, I mean, it’s a process, it’s a process,” Johnson said on the Parkins & Spiegel Show on Monday evening. “But things are, I would say, starting to hopefully, to ramp up. We’ll see kind of where things go, especially in this next week … just before the trade deadline. You never know what can happen beforehand, but just looking forward to seeing where things go. Because I mean, to me, it’s different and just talking and really just, ‘OK, well, let’s try to figure something out, let’s try to figure something out’ versus things getting done. So I’m just looking forward to seeing what actually gets done.”

The 24-year-old Johnson is playing in the final year of his contract. The NFL trade deadline looms on Oct. 31, and Johnson previously admitted the thought of being dealt away has crossed his mind, though the Bears haven’t given any indication to date that they’re exploring such a path.

“I don’t have any assumptions,” Johnson said of the situation, adding the Bears could also place the franchise tag on him next year if he’s headed for free agency.

On Sunday, Johnson had the biggest game of his four-year NFL career, recording two interceptions – including a pick-six – in the Bears’ 30-12 win against the Raiders at Soldier Field. He had just one interception in his first 43 career games before Sunday.
