(670 The Score) Bears star cornerback Jaylon Johnson is proud of his team’s progress in a 4-2 start but isn’t getting ahead of himself as he looks at the big picture.
After all, the Bears are in the NFC North and their schedule will get much tougher coming out of their bye this week.
"It definitely feels good,” Johnson said on the Spiegel & Holmes Show on Monday evening. “You can't overlook it. We’ve definitely been in worse situations. So we definitely want to take advantage of where we’re at in this moment. Of course, having a bye, being able to get guys back (healthy) and truly keep taking those next steps. I think too now, it’s not like, ‘OK, yeah, this is our year now that we’re 4-2.’ We can easily drop four games in a row and now we’re 4-6. Honestly, just taking it week by week, opportunity by opportunity just to renew our minds. I mean, it's a long season. Now we got 11 straight (games after the bye). I know we got a heckuva November and December with all of our division games, San Fran in the midst of that. We got some games coming to us, for sure, so we’ve definitely got to continue to chip away one week at a time.”
The Vikings lead the NFC North at 5-0, while the Lions are 4-1 and the Packers sit at 4-2 like the Bears do.
"We definitely have the best division in football,” Johnson said. “It’s going to take a lot. So we got to get guys to get back healthy and continue to remain cemented to the mission. For me personally, it doesn’t move me too much now (being 4-2) because we’ve got a long way to go.”
