Jaylon Johnson on Ben Johnson: 'He's a heckuva play-caller'

(670 The Score) In recent weeks, the Bears have twice had an up-close look at a big-name candidate as the NFL coaching carousel begins to spin.

Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson helped guide Detroit to wins against Chicago on Thanksgiving Day and again Sunday, when Johnson’s offense amassed 475 yards in a 34-17 win against the Bears at Soldier Field. As the Bears have begun their coaching search to replace the fired Matt Eberflus, the expectation across the NFL is that Johnson will be on their short list, and he’s intrigued by their opening, according to reports.

So, what does Bears star cornerback Jaylon Johnson think of Johnson the offensive coordinator?

“He’s a heckuva play-caller,” Jaylon Johnson said on the Spiegel & Holmes Show on Monday evening. “You can only get so much out of playing against him, but he definitely has a well-oiled machine in his offense that he’s been running in his third year now. They have a heckuva offense. The O-line is solid, Jared Goff does what he’s supposed to do. For the most part, he doesn’t turn the ball over, except for that one game. He gets the job done. The running backs are really good. The receivers make the plays they’re supposed to make. I think he does a good job of putting everybody in position (to make plays).”

The Lions lead the NFL in averaging 32.9 points per game and are second in total offense in averaging 408.6 yards per game.
