(670 The Score) In the aftermath of the Bears’ 12-10 win against the Vikings on Monday night, coach Matt Eberflus held his usual presentation of game balls that follows a victory.
Eberflus awarded “everybody” on the Bears the game ball, citing the team’s collective effort to “finish” in a close game. After Eberflus was done speaking and before the Bears broke it down, quarterback Justin Fields interjected for a brief moment.
Fields had coughed up a pair of costly fumbles in the fourth quarter before responding by leading the Bears on a game-winning field goal drive in the final minutes. Fields got the opportunity to come up big because the Bears defense had forced a key three-and-out late as the Vikings tried to run out the clock with a 10-9 lead.
“Those two fumbles, I appreciate you all,” Fields said in a video posted by the Bears on X. “I just want to say I appreciate y’all for sticking by my side, believing in me. I love all you boys.”
A day later, Eberflus reflected on the moment during a media session at Halas Hall, praising Fields for thanking his teammates.
“For him to stand up there and to do that in that moment, I think that’s special,” Eberflus told reporters. “It says a lot about his character and about his leadership. It was really neat to see, and the response of the guys was also really cool to see too. That was a cool moment.”
