(670 The Score) The Bears reached a deal with the Dolphins on Monday evening to acquire veteran interior offensive lineman Dan Feeney in exchange for a sixth-round pick, according to reports.
The question now is how Feeney fits in and what his addition means for others on the Bears’ offensive line. Guard Teven Jenkins has a leg injury that’s expected to keep him out early in the season, and interior lineman Lucas Patrick has also dealt with injury this preseason.
“It reflects the Bears’ desperation at the position for depth,” Score morning host David Haugh said. “I think it says a lot about their expectations for Teven Jenkins, who could be out maybe longer than we anticipate, maybe longer than they hope or are planning on. It doesn’t say much about Lucas Patrick, because this is a Lucas Patrick role – somebody who is versatile at all three interior line positions. And he’s not been available during preseason. So I don’t think it reflects well on his durability either.
“This says the Bears are concerned about their depth and they want quality depth and they’re willing to pay for it. This is a $3-million investment on a veteran to stabilize your offensive line that’s shakier than it should be. I hope this doesn’t imply that they are concerned about Nate Davis. Maybe they should be. I don’t know. There’s a lot of mystery that remains about Nate Davis and his status. We don’t even know what the injury is, if he’s got one.”
