(670 The Score) There's an outside chance that Bears running back David Montgomery could be ready for the season opener.
After suffering a groin injury in practice Wednesday, Montgomery is expected to be out two to four weeks, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported. Chicago's season opener is at Detroit on Sept. 13, meaning Montgomery could be ready if he heals on the fast end of the timetable.
Montgomery suffered the injury after taking a handoff in a non-contact drill, going down awkwardly. He limped off the field, then was carted away to the team facility for further evaluation.
"You try to say as positive as you can," Bears coach Matt Nagy said Wednesday. "You don't know, really, what the answer is and where things are at."
Montgomery rushed for 889 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie in 2019. He's set to be the Bears' feature back, and they have little depth behind him, meaning they could need to look for an addition on the open market.
