(670 The Score) The Bears will release running back Tarik Cohen with an injury designation, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Friday.
Cohen, 26, hasn’t played since suffering a torn ACL in his right knee in a game in late September 2020. The team had hoped he could return at some point in the 2021 season, but Cohen didn't progress quickly enough in his rehab to do so. Cohen still hasn’t passed a physical since his injury, Schefter reported, though his hope is to be ready for the upcoming season.
Cohen had a $3.9-milllion base salary for 2022, and $2.5 million of it was guaranteed for injury, Brad Biggs of the Tribune reported.
The Bears selected Cohen in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. His best season was in 2018, when he had 444 rushing yards, 725 receiving yards and earned Pro Bowl honors as a return man. Cohen rushed for 1,101 yards and had 209 catches for 1,575 yards across four seasons in Chicago.
The Bears signed Cohen to a three-year contract extension in 2020, shortly before he tore his ACL.
The Bears have a strong running backs corps, with the productive David Montgomery entrenched as the starter and Khalil Herbert impressing as a rookie in 2021 when Montgomery was out with injury.
