CHICAGO (670 The Score) – Bears edge rusher Robert Quinn set the franchise single-season sack record Sunday afternoon.

Quinn recorded a strip-sack of Giants quarterback Mike Glennon with just more than eight minutes remaining as the Bears held a 29-3 lead, giving him 18 sacks for the season. After the play, Bears coach Matt Nagy took a timeout to give the crowd time to celebrate the even-keeled Quinn, who simply shook his head as he took the moment in stride.

Quinn surpassed the record of Hall of Fame pass rusher Richard Dent, whose 17.5 sacks in 1984 had marked the team's most in a single season. Fittingly, the 31-year-old Quinn set his record in the 16th game of this newly expanded 17-game regular season.

The Bears signed Quinn to a five-year, $70-million deal in March of 2020. He struggled last season, recording just two sacks in 15 games. Quinn didn’t make any excuses for his poor performance in 2020, vowing that he would bounce back in 2021.

“I get the opportunity to reprove myself, earn the respect — or however you want to say it — from the guys," Quinn said during training camp in July. "Make sure I don’t disappoint them with this season like I did last year.”

At the time of Quinn’s record sack Sunday, he took the NFL lead in sacks this season as well.
