Scuffling Bears hold a 'needed' team meeting: 'We weren't sugarcoating anything'

(670 The Score) In the wake of their latest disappointing loss, the Bears utilized their regular Monday team meeting to reassess their standards.

That meeting was positive, linebacker T.J. Edwards told the Bernstein & Holmes Show on Tuesday, two days after Chicago dropped to 4-4 with a 29-9 loss to the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium. Edwards declined to reveal who all spoke in the meeting, though head coach Matt Eberflus was present.

“I felt like it was real,” Edwards said. “And I felt like it was everyone kind of understanding that what we’re doing right now isn’t good enough. It’s not to our standard – from every single person in there. I felt like that was real, and I think we needed that a little bit.

“We weren’t sugarcoating anything. Stuff that was said, I’ll keep in house, but it was just very genuine and real. Understanding that from coaches to players, we all need to be better. I think when every single one of us can kind of look within ourselves first and understand that, but I also get the feeling that everyone wasn’t thinking it’s this guy or that guy, it’s all of us together trying to get this fixed. That’s going to start with (Wednesday’s) practice.

“Intentions and those things in this business, they obviously matter internally and things like that. But what matters is the results we get. Unfortunately, that’s the business that we’re in. We’re in a results-based league. Really, that comes down to our leadership and guys who are in those roles, played a lot of ball for a long time and understand what it’s supposed to look like.”

The Bears’ ugly loss in to the Cardinals came one week after they suffered a stunning loss to the Commanders on a last-second Hail Mary, a setback that led to a turbulent last week at Halas Hall in which the team sought accountability and solutions.

The Bears (4-4) will host the Patriots (2-7) on Sunday at Soldier Field.
