(670 The Score) Bears interim head coach Thomas Brown's debut revealed more of the same for his team in another disappointing performance in a spiraling season.
The Bears lost 38-13 to the 49ers on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium with an ugly performance that left Brown without many positives to glean after the game.
“We got our butts kicked,” Brown told reporters after the game. “No other way to say it. We always be straightforward, honest and open about the things that transpired. I need to do a better job of putting a better game plan on both sides of the ball, so we can execute better. Obviously, I’ll continue to challenge the guys to be at their best, also encourage those guys, also demand that we stay unified. This is a grown-man's business. There is no laydown or quit in our football team, which I do love. But we got to do a better job to start the games faster, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. I think we did a decent job at halftime making adjustments.
“Overall, not enough explosive on the offensive side of the ball and we gave up way too many on defense.
“We got our butts kicked. Enough said.”
The 49ers led 24-0 at halftime. In the first half, the 49ers compiled 319 yards, while the Bears had just four net yards and five punts.
The Bears scored their points on a pair of touchdown passes from quarterback Caleb Williams to rookie receiver Rome Odunze, but that was the extent of their scoring for the day.
The Bears posted only 162 net yards of offense, their lowest output in four games with Brown as their play-caller. Meanwhile, the defense was gashed for 452 yards by the 49ers in the first game with defensive coordinator Eric Washington calling the plays on that side of the ball.
The Bears dropped to 4-9 on the season by losing their seventh straight game, nine days after they fired head coach Matt Eberflus.
